Common Microwave Issues We Repair

1. Microwave Won't Heat Food

If the unit runs and turns normally but fails to heat your food, key high-voltage components are typically at fault:

Failing Magnetron: The magnetron tube generates the radio frequencies that cook food. When it wears out or burns internally, the microwave will run without producing heat.
High-Voltage Diode / Capacitor: A shorted diode or blown capacitor prevents power from boosting to the high voltage required by the magnetron.
Door Interlock Switch: Modern units use multiple door safety switches. If one switch fails, the unit may illuminate and spin while locking out the heating circuit for safety.

Safety Warning: Microwaves store high voltage in internal capacitors even when unplugged. Internal electrical repairs should strictly be handled by trained technicians.

2. Unit Stops Mid-Cycle or Shut Down Completely

If the microwave turns off shortly after starting or refuses to turn on at all, common causes include:

Blown Main Fuse or Thermal Cutoff: Power surges or excessive internal heat trip safety fuses, cutting all electrical power to the display and controls.
Faulty Door Latch Assembly: Broken door hooks or misaligned switch actuators prevent the control board from verifying the door is securely closed.
Control Board Relay Failures: Worn circuit board relays cut power to the drive motor and transformer unexpectedly.

3. Glass Turntable Won't Spin

A rotating glass plate ensures uniform cooking. If the tray stops turning, the problem usually lies in:

Drive Motor Failure: The small motor beneath the cavity floor can burn out or jam over time.
Damaged Coupler or Roller Ring: Cracked plastic drive bushings or misaligned roller rings prevent smooth rotation of the glass tray.

1. Exhaust Fan Not Working or Weak Airflow

A range hood that fails to clear smoke, steam, or cooking odors often suffers from ventilation or motor issues:

Blower Motor Failure: Overworked fan motors can burn out internally or develop seized bearings from heavy grease accumulation.
Fan Control Switch / Selector: Worn switch contacts prevent speed settings (Low, Medium, High) from sending signals to the motor.
Clogged Grease Filters or Duct Line: Saturated mesh filters or blocked duct vents severely restrict suction power.

2. Range Hood Is Excessively Loud or Vibrating

Rattling, humming, or scraping noises during operation point to mechanical wear:

Unbalanced or Damaged Fan Impeller: Plastic or aluminum fan blades can warp, crack, or become weighted down unevenly by grease buildup.
Loose Mounting Hardware: Vibration from the motor can loosen the housing brackets, causing the entire unit to rattle against wall cabinetry.

3. Range Hood Lights Won't Turn On

If replacing the light bulb doesn't restore cooktop illumination, the underlying cause is typically a failing light socket, a defective light switch, or a blown transformer on electronic control models.
